Emler Tchamitchian Echampard

Emler Tchamitchian Echampard
“ à quelle distance sommes nous ?”
in circum girum ICG 1205-1

Rarely has an album's title captured with such exactness the extreme complexity of the relationship between musicians and listener : what positions they have to hold, and grounds to explore - or not. "How far away are we ?" - someone had to come up with that title. This isn't just a minor detail. Indeed, in placing the distance at the centre of his interrogation, the equilateral triangle formed by Emler, Tchamitchian and Echampard opens new perspectives for listening and playing. Guided by this Ariadne's thread, the listener acquires a new visibility on the French trio's music. Suddenly everything makes sense - skids and collisions ("Quelque-Chose A Dire"), dissonances and lulls ("Voyage En Comptine"). What is ultimately most surprising is the closeness of the proximity that ties the listener with the music of this remarkable and exceptional trio.
